Alive & Kicking stitchers come from urban areas in Lusaka and Nairobi, where finding employment is extremely difficult. At Alive & Kicking over 150 adults are able to stitch their own way out of poverty, earning a fair wage in good working conditions.
Stitchers benefit from work place health and wellness advice sessions designed to encourage awareness about how to achieve and maintain good health, and to remove stigma about disease. Some stitchers have been trained as HIV peer educators, adding to their skill sets and allowing them to give key messages to children when balls are donated.

Alive & Kicking’s original stitching centre is situated just off the Mombasa Road which links Nairobi’s airport with the city centre. It houses over 50 stitchers, 3 printers, a small management team and storage for up to 15,0000 balls.

Alive & Kicking balls are distributed to children in schools, orphanages, refugee camps, and youth groups across Africa.
